The Sudanese government and a major rebel group from its southern Nuba Mountains on Sunday signed a document which paves.
Members will include the director of the Chabad Center for Jewish Life, Rabbi Dovid Yeichtel, and other UI professors and students, as well as community members.
The university announced in Nov. 2020 that it would be taking steps to address campus antisemitism, particularly what it described as incidents “that demonize or delegitimize Jewish and pro-Israel students or compare them to Nazis.”
“All Jewish students should feel confident that if they encounter a swastika on campus, the university stands with them in rejecting symbols of hate,” the statement said. “Anti-Semitism, anti-Semitic forms of anti-Zionism and other forms of discrimination have no place at this university. We will stand united against all forms of anti-Semitism.”
‘Targeted vandalism’ at student’s apartment where Israeli flag was displayed prompts University of Illinois police probe; school condemns anti-Semitism Elyssa Cherney, Chicago Tribune
The University of Illinois Police Department is investigating the recent egging of an apartment where a student showcased an Israeli flag near the Urbana-Champaign campus, officials said Thursday.
Sean Garrick, vice chancellor for diversity, equity and inclusion, said the “incident of targeted vandalism” took place at an off-campus student apartment in Champaign when someone threw raw eggs at a balcony where the flag was hanging, according to police and a campuswide email.
Police “will take appropriate action if those responsible are identified,” Garrick said in a message to students, faculty and staff.
