LG Poll: OYSIEC cancels nomination fee, to refund candidates

Ibadan, May 15, 2021 The Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) has cancelled the nomination fee imposed on candidates for the May 22, local government elections in the state.
The commission also declared readiness to refund those it already collected.
The cancellation is contained in a statement signed by the Electoral Commissioner, Voter Education and Publicity, Prince Afeez Adeniyi, and made available to newsmen on Saturday in Ibadan.
Naija247news reports that the commission had in its guidelines stipulated a nomination fee of N250,000 for chairmanship candidates and N50,000 for councillorship candidates.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the commission had in its guidelines stipulated a nomination fee of N250,000 for chairmanship candidates and N50,000 for councillorship candidates. The commission had also released the names of qualified Chairmanship and Councillorship candidates of 17 political parties who signified their intentions to participate in the May 22, local government elections.

The Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) has assured of equal treatment of all political parties in the May 15 local government election in the state.
This is as the commission assured of non-partisanship and fairness, noting that Governor Seyi Makinde, despite setting it up, had allowed its independence.
OYSIEC chairman, Isiaka Olagunju, represented by OYSIEC commissioners, Mr Emmanuel Olarenwaju and Mr Afeez Adeniyi stated these while addressing members of Action Democratic Party (ADP) which had its primaries in preparation for the forthcoming local government election in Oyo State.
Speaking, Olagunju assured all political parties that the commission was committed to free and fair election come what may.
