According to a report by AFP, at least 70 people have died due to severe cold in Afghanistan amid a wave of freezing temperatures. Since last week, mercury has plunged in Kabul and several other regions, the lowest temperature recorded was -33 degrees Celsius in the country’s central region Ghor.
In recent weeks, the bitter winter cold is devastating the most vulnerable and has international aid organizations scrambling to save millions from starving or freezing because they have neither food nor fuel.
Ever since the withdrawal of the U.S. and its allies, and the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan, the global community cut off non-humanitarian aid, froze assets abroad and imposed sanctions on the new government.
