And then a vacancy came along to be the secretary of the smithsonian. We look at many candidates around the country, it was clear that he was the best person to be secretary. Carolina. My mom and dad met while they were students at Friendship Junior College in iraq hill, South Carolina. After they both graduated from friendship, they moved permanently to great falls. Initially, they were both school teachers. You could be a schoolteacher at that time with just a Junior College education. My dad did not stay in teaching, because he discovered that what was listed on his contract as his per month payment was not the same as he was receiving. This was at a time when the boards of education for all composed of waste men, and so at the end of the year my father approached a person who was a scientist voucher for a payment. He said i noticed that there is a discrepancy here. It was a five dollar difference between what he was supposed to be paid and what he was receiving. For questioning the five dollar differential, which the School Board Member was pocketing, my father was terminated as a teacher. My mother continued to be a teacher. In fact, my first seven yea

Johns church, and i am thrilled that our friends at the White House Historical association asked us to provide space for tonights conversation. Stewart asked if i would share a little bit of a history of this historic room that you are sitting in tonight, and so i will share with you this church was completed in 1816. The architect was Benjamin Henri vitro, and not only did he designs church, he was working on rebuilding the white house after it was destroyed by the british in the war of 18. 12 in 1818, he built what is now the home of the historical association. And if you go inside the dictator house, and you look up, you see a similar entrance. Its almost like a miniature of this dome of we have in our church space.
