County courthouse renamed in honor of late Judge Mickle
The next step will be developing a budget for things like signage and associated expenses. The criminal courthouse will be renamed The Judge Stephan P. Mickle Sr. Criminal Courthouse, said Ken Cornell, chair of the Alachua County Commission. “We have to develop a budget. It probably will happen sometime in the fall.”
Mickle passed away on Jan. 26. He is survived by his mother Catherine Mickle, his wife of 52 years Evelyn Moore Mickle, three adult children Stephanie, Amy Grace and Stephan II grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
Mickle was a role model for young Blacks in Alachua County, said Alachua County Commissioner Charles “Chuck” Chestnut IV .
