Bay Area authors recommend books to read this Black History Month

Vanessa Hua February 4, 2021Updated: February 4, 2021, 7:06 pm The whirlwind of the past year brought a national reckoning on race and massive protests against police brutality, followed by the electoral victories of Kamala Harris, the first Black vice president, and Raphael Warnock, Georgia’s first Black senator. Last month, Black poet Amanda Gorman dazzled us on Inauguration Day with “The Hill We Climb,” her stirring work about these turbulent times. She’ll follow up that performance at the Super Bowl on Sunday. As Black History Month begins this week, I spoke with several Bay Area authors who recommended their favorite books. The author will join us from South Africa on Sunday, January 31st to discuss the book with The African Book Club. The earlier start time is to accommodate his time zone.
