An ambitious Age Friendly Strategy for Limerick has been officially launched, building on the successes of the first strategy to create a more inclusive and vibrant community for people of all ages.

16% of Limerick’s population or 33,588 people are aged 65 years and over according to the most recent Census returns in 2022. This was an increase in this age group of 23% in Limerick since 2016.

MEMBERS of the County Wicklow Older People’s Council (OPC) took part in a guided tour of Avondale House to assess the accessibility of the venue and the experience for older people.

The Rose Hotel in Tralee earlier this month played host to what was described as a “fantastic” event in the form of the Older People’s Convention, an event which saw a large number of participants from 31 different Older People’s Councils from all around the country gather together.

With the impact of the pandemic still being felt the Wexford Older Person’s Council (OPC) is on a mission to recruit new members, to encourage the county’s older people to come out and discuss the issues close to their hearts. In an effort to heighten awareness of the council and its role within the county, the current council have begun a five-stop tour of Wexford, visiting each municipal district and the members of the local communities.
