The House of Representatives on Wednesday moved to ascertain the level of food security in the country, following the adoption of a motion by Rep. Dennis Idahosa (APC-Edo State) on the floor of the House in Abuja.
Moving the motion, Idahosa noted that the Agricultural sector had witnessed policy changes since Vision 20:2020
was launched in 2009 and in Aug 2016.
He added that the Agriculture Promotion Policy, known as Green Alternative, was again launched and had reshaped the direction of agricultural development in Nigeria.
He stated that as the nation experienced different phases of strategic plans, there had been no systematic framework of reviewing the performance of the sector vis-a-vis food security and global competitiveness.

OYO State Director, Federal Ministry for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr Ogunwale Adeniyi has warned that the nation is on the verge of food insecurity except the current food and nutrition challenges are efficiently tackled.
According to Ogunwale, the nation continues to be faced with key gaps in agriculture today that include its inability to meet domestic food requirement, and inability to export at quality levels required for market success.
To address the challenge, Ogunwale said it was imperative for government and the governed to collaborate whereby government harnesses and mobilises human resources of the country into actionable programmes that will make meaningful impacts on the economy.
