spent on food and drink. Plus, many open bars operate on a fixed number of hours of service. If your heart is set on more than an hour between ceremony and reception, there is a way to have the best of both worlds. We suggest suspending the open bar service in favor of wine service at dinner, says Olascoaga. Some venues will allow you to split your bar contract and allow some of the service during cocktail and the remaining service after dinner for the rest of the evening.

Wedding Planners, Designers, Managers: What Do They Do?
Note: these titles are not mutually exclusive. Many wedding planners also function as designers (or lead the design team), and many designers offer full-service planning. “The planners I know at the top level design as an integral part of planning,” says planner Elizabeth Duncan. “While some now offer design-only services, it’s rarely that limited.” Here’s our handy guide from Danielle Couick of Magnolia Bluebird Design & Events.
The number of firms planning parties may have dropped even further as the holidays approached. “Most of our corporate clients reached out to us about a virtual holiday party,” says Kawania Wooten of Howerton + Wooten Events. “Then, they all nixed the idea for various reasons. I think that some of them probably gave up because of finances and some gave up because of pandemic fatigue.”
A HuffPost/YouGov survey didn’t find much interest in virtual holiday fetes, with just 7 percent of respondents saying they’d be “very enthusiastic” about one perhaps no surprise after nine months of staring at screens for virtually everything.
