As many as 21 research papers from students representing various educational institutions from 12 states were presented in second ‘Pure Earth Environment Conference, 2021’ conducted recently virtually due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Three technical sessions categorized under ‘Environment, Health and COVID-19’ were chaired by scientists/academics like Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts University Principal S. Kumàr, J. Ramanamurthy formerly of ISRO, G Naranamma Institute of Technology and Sciences’s M. Aparna, Loyala Academy’s P. Sheshabala, and Akash Sondhi from TERI School of Advanced Studies.

Judges dealt with one young man who groomed girls on Snapchat before subjecting them to sexual abuse, some of which the sick pervert filmed on his mobile phone, and another predator who used the social network to groom a child before repeatedly raping her.

Sex offender Laurence Bourne, 68, was accused of abusing a child on numerous occasions in Basildon. He has been convicted of abusing a child over a three-year period 30 years ago. Bourne, of Brackendale Court, Basildon, was arrested in June that year as part of an investigation by Essex Police’s Quest team. He was later charged with seven counts of indecent assault. He denied the charges but was convicted following a trial at Basildon Crown Court.
