Sutherland springs with the very latest on the investigation and whats going on there right now. Sarah . Reporter well, good morning. This is a community in shock and grief. 26 people dead in a town of just several hundred, it seems everyone knew someone inside the church. In what was supposed to be a sanctuary, shots fired. In front of the church. In front of the church. Reporter during sunday services at First Baptist church in Sutherland Springs, texas. 26 people were killed, between 12 to 14 were children. My husband actually went to the church to render aid and hes a strong man, but he turned around and came back. He just he he said, i cant do it. Reporter Law Enforcement tells us that devin kelley wearing black and Tactical Gear opened fire outside the church before continuing inside, shooting at parishioners. He exited the church, a local resident, grabbed his rifle and engaged that suspect. Reporter kelley ran and was later found dead inside his car, although its not clear yet
This afternoon was released. He is now in local hospital with life nonlife threatening injuries. Now take look. Lets go live to skyfox right now above the scene. You could probably im not sure what you can see its very dark. This all started in building c inside the vaughn correctional facility. That is where 100 inmates are housed. It happened about 10 30 this afternoon. Right now what you are seeing is an overwhelming police response, ambulances, other Law Enforcement continue to pour in. We saw correctional Emergency Response and tactical teams along with the fbi has been on scene. Its been reported by recorded phone call from inside the prison to local news Journal Newspaper that inmates want better treatment. That may be the reason for this takeover. So as it stands right now, four officers remain being held hostage. No word on their condition. Or how many inmates are holding them. Progress toll 40 00 p. M. Of Law Enforcement and they cause their hands are tied. They tell us they cant do anything. They say its the board of supervisors that are causing a lot of this stuff. I happen to knowi lived in San Francisco for 40 years that raised five black children in the city and ive worked with Law Enforcement and while its true you cant take the player you have to hate the game, this game started during slavery and thats the elephant in the room which the board of supervisors sign and the ordinance that pointed out that San Francisco had noted that slavery was a crime but we still follow the laws that slavery started. So the police hands are tied because they have to follow the laws that were written during slavery times which its easier to kill a man than to write up a report.
