LAHORE: The legal fraternity Wednesday observed âblack dayâ to protest against the proposal floated again before the Judicial Commission for elevation of Sindh High Courtâs junior judge to the Supreme Court.
Speaking at a general house meeting of the Lahore High Court Bar Association, the lawyers said the proposal to elevate a junior judge was in violation of the apex courtâs judgment famously known as Al-Jihad Trust and Asad Ali cases.
They said if the Supreme Court violated its own decisions how others would comply with its decisions. They demanded the apex court to honour its judgments and follow the principle of seniority in the elevation of judges.

The AJK High Court have invited objections from Prime Minister Imran Khan, AJK Prime minister Raja Farooq Haider and Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs Ali Amin Gandapur. AJK Council and law and justice secretaries of AJK have also been made parties to the case.
The petition said eight vacancies of judges are vacant in the AJK High Court, which Chief Justice Raja Sadaqat Ali Khan is running the court alone, which is injustice with the chief justice, judiciary, lawyers and litigants. The petition questioned how a single judge can perform the duties of nine judges.

LHCBA questions elevation of junior judge to SC

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) has also questioned the proposed elevation of a junior judge of the Sindh High Court as judge of the Supreme Court.
A statement issued by LHCBA President Maqsood Ahmad Buttar expressed reservation over elevation of Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar of the SHC (being at serial No 5 on seniority list) to the Supreme Court. It said a question arises, by the proposed elevation of a junior judge, whether all the four senior judges of the SHC lack the laid down criteria for elevation to the Supreme Court.

Islamabad [Pakistan], May 17 (ANI): After the retirement of two PakistanSupreme Court judges, there has been a noticeable delay in filling up their vacant positions in the court, and this has resulted in eyebrows being raised the country.
According to The Express Tribune, PakistanSupreme Court judges Faisal Arab and Manzoor Malik retired on November 4, 2020, and April 30 this year respectively. However, despite an ever-growing caseload, two vacant positions in the Supreme Court have not yet been filled.
Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) Secretary Ahmed Farooq Rana claimed that the reason for this delay in filling the vacant SC posts is internal differences. But the common man is suffering because of these rifts, he added.
