(Joe Songer | jsonger@al.com).Joe Songer | jsonger@al.com Facebook Share The Alabama Gulf Coast Convention and Visitors Bureau is getting $1 million, mostly from CARES Act funds, to boost marketing in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. The U.S. Department of Commerce announced Thursday that it was awarding an $800,000 grant to the bureau, to be matched with $200,000 in local investment. The source of the local funds was not identified. The bureau promotes tourism in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, and the funds are to be used “to develop and implement a tourism recovery marketing campaign in response to the economic downturn that resulted from the coronavirus pandemic.”
