Accused gets nine life sentences for the murder and rape of 8-year-old Tazné Van Wyk in the Western Cape High Court today

The Western Cape High Court has described Moehydien Pangaker, a 57-year-old convicted serial rapist, kidnapper and child murderer as a deceitful, manipulative and cruel individual who cannot be reintegrated into society.

The man convicted of the kidnap, rape and murder of eight-year-old Tazne van Wyk will learn the extent of his fate in February.

The depraved 57-year-old was convicted of kidnapping, raping and murdering the eight-year-old in Worcester, and was also found guilty of 17 counts of sexual and assault charges relating to other minors. He had been out on parole and on the run at the time.

The sexual predator found guilty on 22 out of 27 charges, which included rape, assault and incest, and the murder of a bright little eight-year-old girl from Elsies River, will sit in Pollsmoor Prison until mid-January when he will be sentenced.

Judge Alan Maher spent the past two days summarising the evidence presented to him in the lengthy Western Cape High Court trial.

The judgment in the case of the man on trial for the murder of Tazne van Wyk, as well as multiple rapes of girls in his own family, started with the judge telling the court that one of his victims had simply been ignored when she told her father what had happened to her.

The Western Cape High Court has found that Tazne van Wyk was kidnapped, brutally raped and murdered by the man on trial, who cannot be named to protect his family's identity.

The high court in Cape Town has convicted the parolee who was arrested for kidnapping, raping and killing eight-year-old Tazne van Wyk in 2020.
