Western Cape Premier Alan Winde says suspended MEC Albert Fritz has been removed from the provincial executive cabinet.

The DA has given fired Western Cape community safety MEC Albert Fritz 24 hours to provide reasons why he should not be suspended from party activities.

This follows an independent investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct reportedly against young women recruited to work for his office.

Sacked Western Cape community safety MEC Albert Fritz told the advocate investigating sexual misconduct allegations against him that they were rooted in DA factionalism.

Fritz sent his resignation letter to the chairperson of the federal council, Helen Zille, on Tuesday after the party referred his case to its federal legal council.

Axed Western Cape Community Safety MEC Albert Fritz has resigned from his position as the party's leader in the province. This comes after Fritz was given 24 hours to provide the Democratic Alliance (DA) with reasons why he should not be suspended from party activities.

Albert Fritz believes he has been subjected to an unfair and one-sided probe, which is driven by a political agenda.

Community Safety MEC Albert Fritz was fired from the provincial cabinet with immediate effect on Tuesday.

Former Western Cape community safety MEC Albert Fritz said his accusers have been permitted to hide behind the shield of anonymity and the wholly inadequate investigation while his name has been publicly besmirched.
