Police have opened an inquiry into allegations of sexual assault against suspended Community Safety MEC Albert Fritz.

With the appointment of Advocate Jennifer Williams, Western Cape Premier Alan Winde said that he would communicate the outcome of the investigation when it is finalised.

Cameron Dugmore, the leader of the ANC in the Western Cape legislature, has written to the provincial police commissioner to find out if allegations against MEC Albert Fritz amount to possible criminal conduct.

The official opposition in the provincial legislature is concerned by the manner in which the matter has been handled by premier Alan Winde.

Alan Winde says the independent investigation into the veracity of the allegations will guide his decisions from an executive perspective.

The DA has accused the ANC of milking the Albert Fritz saga for political mileage.
