LEGAZPI CITY: The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) warned of a possible lahar flow should a heavy rainfall take place in Albay, Mariton Bornas, head of the volcano monitoring division, said on Saturday.

Mayon Volcano will keep its Alert Level 3 status since the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology is seeing no clue to downgrade it.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology raised on June 8 the status of Mayon Volcano in Albay to Alert Level 3 after it showed an “increased tendency towards a hazardous eruption.”

No earthquakes occurred in Mayon Volcano, but 299 rockfall events and eight dome-collapse PDCs were recorded over the last 24 hours.

The Department of Health in the Bicol region confirmed in an advisory on Wednesday that one of the 30 close contacts of the first COVID-19 case has tested positive for the virus after undergoing an RT-PCR test.

Phivolcs said the lava slowly oozing out of Mayon’s crater reached 2.5 kilometers and 1.8 km along the Mi-isi gully in Daraga town and Bonga gully in Legazpi City, respectively.
