Don’t look now, but 2023 is just about in the history books, and a fresh, new 2024 is coming fully into view. As my chairlift companions turned from Salt Lakers to guests from around the globe, it was evident that the holiday season had arrived! So what is your New Year’s resolution?
Connect Summit County, a mental wellness nonprofit, has partnered with other community organizations for Mental Health Awareness Month events. Those events, which are designed to take away the stigma of mental illnesses, include panel discussions, film screenings and socially distanced gatherings.

Congress officially designated May as Mental Health Awareness Month in 1949 after seeing an increased number of veterans suffering from mental illnesses following World War II.
Since 2016, Connect Summit County, a local mental wellness nonprofit, has marked the month through an array of mental health-centered events including seminars, film screenings and gatherings, said Executive Director Deanna Rhodes.

Park City Film will celebrate restarting its in-person public screenings with an array of Academy Award-nominated features and documentaries.
“It’s Oscar season and it’s exciting to see these films on the big screen,” said Park City Film Executive Director Katharine Wang.
The first film out of the gates will be Lee Isaac Chung’s “Minari,” rated PG-13.
The film, which premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival and won the Grand Jury and Audience Awards, will run from Friday, April 16, to Sunday, April 18.
“The film is about a Korean-Amercan family who moves to Arkansas in search of the American Dream, and I’ve been dying to bring it back,” Wang said. “It’s about the resilience of family and what makes a home. It’s a story that people can connect with regardless of their family histories.”
