Westchester County Executive George Latimer delivered his fourth State of the County Address in the Legislative Chambers of the Board of Legislators. Latimer acknowledged that COVID-19 has taken a toll on the County, but promised through good government, to restore and rebuild Westchester back better than it was before.
Latimer said: “Look at us – look at us vaccinated and fighting back. We have a long way to go my friends, we still aren’t all the way back, but ladies and gentlemen we are getting there, and we are united to move forward.”
Latimer stressed the importance of keeping his promise to cut County property taxes for the second year in a row, even in the midst of a crippling pandemic. He signed the 2021 budget maintaining all County services, cutting expenditure by $15.7 million dollars, and increasing the County’s fund balance to over $200 million dollars – the largest fund balance in the County’s history.
After $3 million medical malpractice verdict, NGHS doctor still faces other lawsuits Frances Mitchell
A Northeast Georgia Health System surgeon at the center of a recent $3 million medical malpractice judgment in Hall County has two open lawsuits filed against him, and a settlement was reached in December 2019 on a third case, according to county court records.
NGHS officials told The Times that these cases and the recent $3 million judgment have not affected Dr. Andrew Green’s standing with the hospital nor his ability to perform surgery within the health system.
A jury awarded the $3 million March 23 in the case of Frances Mitchell, a 42-year-old Jackson County woman who died five years ago after a surgery to remove a pelvic mass from her abdomen.

For the second year in a row, Westchester County Executive George Latimer has cut the Westchester County tax levy by $1 million dollars. Latimer signed the budget flanked by nurses at the Westchester County Health Department Clinic highlighting the unprecedented year that 2020 has been, and the extraordinary work of our healthcare professionals.
In the midst of a crippling pandemic and an economic downtown, Latimer kept his promise to the people of Westchester and signed the 2021 budget not only cutting taxes, but also maintaining all County services, and cutting expenditures by $15.7 million dollars in the $2.091 billion dollar budget.
