Record 24.86 lakh tonnes potato produced in Rangpur region

RANGPUR, April 7, 2021 (BSS) – Braving the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, farmers produced an all-time record 24.86 lakh tonnes of potato in all five districts of Rangpur agriculture region during the current Rabi season.
Officials of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) said a target of producing over 23.67 lakh tonnes of potato was fixed from 93,350 hectares of land for the region this season.
“However, farmers finally cultivated potatoes on 97,315 hectares of land exceeding the fixed farming target by 3,965 hectares or 4.25 percent,” Additional Director of the DAE for Rangpur region Agriculturist Khandker Abdul Wahed, told BSS today.

RANGPUR, Jan 2, 2021 (BSS) – Braving the COVID-19 pandemic, farmers have already exceeded the fixed potato farming target by 3.93 percent in Rangpur agriculture region where sowing of seeds still continues this season.
Officials of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) said a super bumper potato production is likely in the region as harvest of its early varieties continues bringing lucrative price to farmers making them happy.
Farmers are now selling their newly harvested early varieties of potatoes between Taka 20 and 30 per kilogram to small traders directly from crop fields depending on the qualities and varieties.
