Aline Griffith: Top Models Make the Best Secret Agents

Share This: Maria Aline Griffith’s life is the stuff of movies. She was a well-educated and striking fashion model from New York. During World War II she was recruited by the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) and sent to neutral Spain, a country rife with Nazi sympathizers and spies. Her mission was to gather as much information as possible to aid in the Allied invasion of France.  After the war, she married a Spanish count and became a member of the Spanish “jet-set.” Her friends included leaders of state and first ladies, industrialists, millionaires, and movie stars. Later, she did contract work for the CIA and wrote several books, some of which recounting her career in espionage. She died in 2017 at the age of 94.

Country Life Trending: The former home of American socialite Aline Griffith, Villa Annabel was the backdrop to some of Marbella s glitziest parties. Marbella is full of exotic-looking villas, but few boast the glitz, mystery and intrigue are woven into the fabric of Villa Annabel, one of the area’s most extraordinary properties.  This opulent villa stands in grounds of a little more than an acre Los Monteros, one of Marbella’s most exclusive addresses, and is currently for sale through Callum Swan Realty. Grand and sophisticated, Villa Annabel is ideal for entertaining especially because the interiors flow seamlessly into a vast terrace and the mature gardens beyond.

The SPY WORE RED: My Adventures as an Undercover Agent in World War II with violent activities created to introduce her as a virtual Jane Bond of espionage when, in fact, she was a civil service clerk, grade 5 employed by the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), predecessor of today s Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). These violent activities assassinations, murders, wild car chases and the like, would have drawn the ire of Spain s dictator, Francisco Franco. Agents from both sides of the European conflict were allowed in neutral Spain provided they operated under conditions laid down by Franco: NO VIOLENCE.  One gunshot signaled a counter-revolution, a fear of all dictators.
