Binge-drinking rapist Paul Devaney jailed for 18-and-a-half-years

Binge-drinking rapist Paul Devaney jailed for 18-and-a-half-years A binge-drinking Carlisle “monster” who raped two women has been jailed for 18-and-a-half years. Paul Devaney left one of his victims sobbing after continuing a sick sex attack despite her desperate attempts to push him away. Carlisle Crown Court heard depraved Devaney later told her “sorry”, and added flippantly: “Drink in, wits out.” Described as being a “heavy drinker”, the 55-year-old, of no fixed address, admitted three counts of rape and was sentenced this afternoon. The court was told he raped one of the women twice, once while she was aged under 16. In moving impact statements read during the court hearing, both women spoke of the massive psychological impact with each having been prescribed anti-depressants while seeking to cope with the aftermath of Devaney’s shocking crimes.
