Nurses, midwives and healthcare assistants will
be considering an offer to settle their Multi Employer
Collective Agreement (MECA) which also means there will be
no strike on 29 July.
District Health Boards
Spokesperson Dale Oliff says the DHBs’ fourth offer is a
package of measures addressing the issues raised by the NZNO
and follows a meeting with the mediator in
Wellington.
“We’re pleased we have landed on what
could be a basis for settling these negotiations.
“DHBs
recognise the essential role of nurses, midwives and
healthcare assistants in caring for New Zealanders and our
focus is on finding a way to address their concerns as well

Spokesperson Dale Oliff says DHBs spent
two days with the NZNO and an independent mediator last week
discussing options for settling the pay talks, and while
nurses have endorsed a strike proposal, DHBs believe they
can come up with an offer to settle the pay
talks.
“We’re continuing to work on a range of
options and will be working with the union again this week
to progress those discussions before the DHB and NZNO
bargaining teams get back together with the mediator next

District Health Boards are committed to mediation
to resolve pay talks, which could avert strike action by the
NZ Nurses Organisation on 9 June.
No strike
notices have been issued at this time. In the event of
strike notices DHBs have planning and contingency systems to
ensure the safety of patients.
DHBs are pleased that a
sensible arrangement has been reached with NZNO that their
members working in managed isolation and quarantine
facilities will not participate in the strike. Furthermore,
DHBs do not anticipate that an eight-hour strike will have a
significant impact on delivery of the COVID-19 vaccination
