The Bedford Area School District is proposing changes to its high school handbook that would better specify potential discipline regarding student athletes posting âderogatoryâ comments about their teammates and coaches on social media.
The school board at its meeting next week also will vote to update its student handbooks, including changes to its high school handbook regarding the code of conduct for student athletes.
Assistant Superintendent Dr. Paul Ruhlman told the board at its meeting Monday night the changes are in response to a Supreme Court case regarding a 14-year-old high school student who in 2017 was suspended from her cheerleading team for a year after she posted an expletive-filled post on Snapchat about the school and the cheerleading squad after being kept on the junior varsity unit.
