Saturday, family members spoke for the first time.
Towhidul’s brother Azazul Bhuiya Haider called his brother a “good man,” saying he helped to bring him to the United States in the late 1980s.
He said they’re still trying to wrap their minds around what went wrong. Whatever happened, I wish that I would know the case, that he or his wife went through all of this trouble. They never shared with us, none of his friends, family. This is really mysterious,” Azazul Bhuiya Haider said.
Faith leaders, neighbors and classmates of the Towhid kids also spoke at the vigil.
“She was always encouraging me to go forward. Farbin was truly one of the most amazing people I’ve ever met,” a friend said during the funeral service.
Police say Tanvir and Farhan Towhid killed their sister, mother, father and grandmother before turning the gun on themselves.
Friends say Farhan had been battling depression.
Officers say they found the family in their home early Monday morning after a friend saw a suicide note on Instagram posted by Farhan and called police to do a welfare check.
The family was buried at a cemetery in Denton.

Hundreds gathered at Allen’s Celebration Park on Wednesday evening to mourn the deaths of an Allen family in an apparent murder-suicide over the weekend.
Police say 19-year-old Farhan Towhid and 21-year-old Tanvir Towhid formed a suicide pact to kill themselves after shooting four family members.
Their bodies were found by police early Monday morning after a friend requested a welfare check about a suicidal person at the home.
Farhan’s twin sister Farbin, their father Towhidul Islam, mother Iren Islam and grandmother Altafun Nessa also died.
Friends say Farhan Towhid had dealt with depression and posted a lengthy suicide note on Instagram before the killings.
“His depression was not any type of product of his environment. He was just not as genetically lucky as the rest of us,” said Farhan’s friend Josh Kattampally. Funeral services for the family will be held at the Allen mosque on Thursday afternoon followed by burial in Denton.
