Baghdad and i was with them to write the first book. Not about me, but to write about them. I was with them when bad things happened. We stayed in touch and they became the second the people in the new book. Where was their base . Kansas. Think of the moment. I know it seems like history at this point. I guess it is history. The war had been through several versions at that point. You know, the common perception was the thing was all but lost. It was inching up to what i have described as the tragic moment of the war. Into that moment went to this battalion, 800 guys, most deploying for the first time, young and full of a young mens invincibility. Off they went. They had a tough time. What was the average age . 19, 20. Most had not been out of the country before, much less deployed into a war before. I remember they were remarkable.
