Over 100 dolphins have been found dead in the Brazilian Amazon due to historic drought and increasing water temperatures. The deaths are believed to be connected to the drought period and high temperatures in Lake Tefe. Researchers are attempting to rescue surviving dolphins by moving them to cooler waters, but this operation is challenging due to the remote location.

The institute is calibrating that the record-high lake temperature and the historic drought in the Amazon may have caused these deaths of dolphins as this high number of deaths is unusual and extreme conditions could be a cause of it

More than a hundred dolphins have been found dead in the Brazilian Amazon amid an historic drought and record-high water temperatures that in places have exceeded 102 degrees Fahrenheit.

Experts say extreme mortality event may be linked to historic drought and soaring lake temperatures in Amazon

MANAUS, Brazil: Not far from the emblematic site where the black waters of the Rio Negro join the brown currents of the Solimoes, two chief tributaries of the Amazon, what once was a lake has given way to a vast stretch of cracked mud.

The dead dolphins were all found in Lake Tefé over the past seven days, according to the Mamirauá Institute, a research facility funded by the Brazilian Ministry of Science.
