officials that potentially jeopardized american security interests in the middle east in that very meeting. there was a lot of stuff going on just in that meeting alone. i do want to i want to go back to frank to make the point that i think you re driving towards because frank can speak to this in a way that i cannot. frank, you just talked about the layers of review you would have to go through in order to justify counterintelligence investigation against the president. i think that you didn t try out, i don t think in that conversation, which was very helpful, was what s the nature of the kind of evidence that you would need? when i saw the reporting on this over the weekend, we re talking about, well, the fbi was concerned because of these public things, the things like nicolle and i were just talking about, the lester holt interview. and i think i heard you discuss this over the wk, the fbi would not go through the review you re talking about and engage in the politically sensibl
so president trump throwing his own intelligence agencies under the bus today in helsinki and now texas senator john cornyn tells cnn there s talk about pushing back on the president, that gop lawmakers may issue a resolution supporting intel community s assessment that russia interfered in the election. we shall see. back with me now steve hall, max and michael. interesting to see if republican lawmakers can stand up to the president. i m not holding my breath, don. we shall see, yeah. this is ash carter, right? don, i m old enough to remember their outrage at the judge perilloux comments, the charlottesville comments, the access hollywood comments. this is the former secretary of defense. he said in my almost four decades in national defense i never saw or imagined so uneven a hand over of american security
lawmakers can stand up to the president. i m not holding my breath, don. we shall see, yeah. this is ash carter, right? don, i m old enough to remember their outrage at the judgeperial comments, the charlottesville comments, the acce access hollywood comments. this is the former secretary of defense. he said in my almost four decades in national defense i never saw or imagined so uneven a hand over of american security interests and principles with nothing in return at a meeting. it was like watching the destruction of a cathedral. what do you think of that, steve? i have to think back to my former colleagues, comments like that not just in the cia but
population. i think he will. what he laid out is serious. we look at the democrats willing to cause pain for the american people shutting down the government. if they don t step up and say let s look at negotiation because he has a willingness to protect the population, then they have a big problem with their base and d.r.e.a.m.ers because it shows they re not seriously. if you would get down there and cut deals we wouldn t be dealing with this brinksmanship. would you back a deal for d.r.e.a.m.ers? i understand it is broader than this daca population. i m a national security guy. we ll see. i ll see what comes out of this thing. what is not conservative or contrary to american security interests to have a pathway to citizenship for people who have been here their whole lives and in many cases contributed more to their country than i have? well, as i said, i m on the record for this daca population which, yeah, i think there are folks who have been here since they were 2 or 5 a
iraq. afghanistan is a mess. why would president obama take this on? if you could just articulate why people feel that the united states participation is important for a deal and what america s security interests are. american security interests in the middle east are something we re aware of, unfortunately, too often in the last 20 years, whether it s our friendship with israel and the threat it s under, whether it s the prospect of a dangerous dictator getting dangerous weapons or whether it s the interference of oil supplies. that s what the middle east is all about. america does have a leadership role in the world. we are the strongest military, economic and political power. and with that strength comes responsibilities and i think as the leading power in the world and the only country that can really influence israel and the palestinians, the world expects something from us. and americans are proud of our leadership role in the world. yes, it has a cost. yes, it can often be a b
