1/ 5 Chinese smartphone and electronics maker Xiaomi announced its Mi Air Charge wireless charger this week. The Mi Air Charge wireless charger will charge smartphones or accessories over the air, meaning users won't have to connect their smartphones to a wire, nor require placing it on a wireless charging dock in order to charge wirelessly. The Mi Air Charge achieves over the air charging by emitting millimeter waves through beamforming, and a smartphone or a receiving device using a receiving antenna array converts those wave signals into electrical energy using a rectifier circuit. Currently, the Mi Air Charge is capable of delivering only 5W power to a single device over a couple of meters of distance, but Xiaomi claims that its capabilities will increase over time.
