$36,000 to go to a university. >> by the way, and by the way. >> that's a fake school. they got to take a picture with a cardboard cutout of donald trump. >> no, no. >> you know where trump would be right now? selling watches is manhattan. you lied about the polish workers. >> yeah, yeah. 38 years ago. >> lied 38 years ago. i guess there's a statute of limitations on lies. >> what is your plan on health care? >> every night five things. win, win, win, he's winning in the polls. >> senator rubio, please, please stop. >> every night. same thing. >> a debate like no other. rubio came out fighting fierce and ready to take on donald trump and the last throwdown before super tuesday, today, rubio back on the attack after unleashing round after round of stinging one-liners. >> we're on the verge of having someone take over the conservative movement in the republican party who's a con artist. out there telling people he's fighting -- his target audience is working americans who have struggled the last few years in this economy, but he's spent a career sticking it to working americans. >> big question now will rubio's new strategy slow trump's momentum or is it too late? sunlen, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, carol. felt at times like we were watching a cage match there. donald trump really caught in the cross hairs taking fire from marco rubio and ted cruz. the big question, how will all of this fire impact the race just four days to super tuesday. an all-out war of insults and put dourn putdowns breaking out in the final debate before super tuesday. >> the only person on the stage fine ford hiring people to work on your projects illegally. hired workers from poland. >> the only one on the stage that's hired people. you haven't hired anybody. >> reporter: marco rubio and ted cruz worried about donald trump's trifecta of wins in the last three republican contests. unleashing an onslaught of attacks against the front-runner, from illegal immigration -- >> when i was leading the fight against the gang of eight amnesty bill, where was donald? he was firing dennis rodman on "celebrity apprentice." >> if he builds the wall the way he built trump tower he'll be using illegal imgrant labor to do it. >> the second thing about the trade war i don't understand. your ties you wear and suits are made in mexico. >> devalue currencies to such an ex-thaent our businesses cannot compete with them. our workers lose think jobs. >> i don't know anything about bankrupting four company. you bankrupted four company. >> lied about the polish workers. >> yeah, yeah, yeah. 38 years ago. >> let senator rubio. >> i guess there's a statute of limitations on lies. >> competition. so many different plans. >> now he's repeating himself. >> i'm not repeat -- no, no, no. i watched him repeat himself five times four weeks ago. >> i saw you repeat your five times five seconds ago. >> i watched -- i watched him -- melt down on the stage like i've never seen anybody. >> let's stay focused on the subject. >> like he just got out of a swimming pool. >> five things every night. everyone's dumb. >> senator rubio. >> win, win, win. >> senator rubio, please, please stot. >> and every night. same thing. >> reporter: and hillary clinton -- >> first of all -- >> mr. trump. >> talking about the polls, i'm beating him awfully badly in the poll. >> but you're not beating hillary, you're not beating hillary. >> hey, if i can't beat her, you're really going to guess killed. aren't you? so let me ask you this, because you're really getting beaten badly. i know you're embarrassed, i know you're embarrassed. swing for the fences. >> reporter: trump lashing out at both freshmen senators at the saum time. >> you are all talk, no action. what i've seen up here, i mean, first of all, this guy's a choke artist and this guy's a liar. you have a combination of factors, he can't do it for the obvious reason and he can't do it because he doesn't know how to tell the truth. i know politicians, believe it or not, better than you do, and it's not good. >> oh, no. i believe you know politicians much better than i do because for 40 years you've been funding liberal democratic politicians and by the way. >> i funded you. i funded him. >> the reason -- >> you're welcome to have the check back. be clear. >> donald, relax. >> go ahead. i'm relaxed. you're the basket case. go ahead. don't get nervous. >> reporter: now, after all of that, donald trump already on twitter this morning mocking marco rubio's performance last night saying in a tweet, "lightweight marco rubio was working hard last night. the problem is, he is a choker and once a choker always a choker, mr. meltdown." carol, such an interesting, fascinating dynamic, this new rivalry between donald trump and marco rubio. we'll see how it plays out on the campaign trail. >> one way to describe it. live from houston this morning. thank you. hey, it took ten debates. the republicans who would be president finally trained their attacks on the front-runner donald trump, and even mr. trump admitted it was one tough night tweeting, "all the online polls had me winning the debate. i really enjoyed the evening. not easy, but good." marco rubio threw the most punches and dominated the post-clash headlines. "l.a. times" declaring he was ready to fight and marco rubio ate his wheaties. huffington post, rubio unloads on donald trump in his best debate yet. slate says, marco rubio finally learned how to attack donald trump. let's talk about that with john avalon, editor and chief of "the daily beast" and a cnn political analyst, and also a cnn political analyst and a former chief of staff for the republican national committee. i know what you were thinking, john avalon. where's "the daily beast" headline? >> tell you what it was, marco the robot turns into the term terminator. marco rubio came ready to fight. not a president's debate in any traditional sense. this was a brawl. he decided to take the fight to donald trump for the first time, really. he was sarcastic, smart, lacerating and had the donald on defense which is hard to do. big night for marco. >> in watches this debate, errol, like no debate i've ever seen and i've been voting since reagan. >> so have i. something important needed to happen. you've gotten e-mail, i get it all the time from people saying, why are you letting trump get away with this and that and this a and that? and what of what he said has been in public knowledge for years. polish workers, undocumented workers, stiffed people, left people jobless. but it's not our job to do that. we put the information out there. it's up to the candidates to turn that into a politically relevant fact. what marco rubio did. it wasn't pretty. donald trump can't blame anybody for the rowdy tone, the tone he established early on. this is information that has been known and public but really needed to become relevant. that's what marco rubio did. >> talk about the tone of the debate last night. lindsey graham did not mince words at the washington press club. this is how he describes his own party, the republican party, while lamenting a hillary clinton win. listen. >> you've come a long way in 72 years. 72 years ago a woman could not be part of the american experience. if you don't vote, that's coming back in 2017. if i were you, i would vote. look how far you've come? the most dishonest person in america is a woman. who's about to be president. how could that be? my party is going [ bleep ] crazy. >> okay. so -- we can probably figure out what lindsey graham said, mike. i'm just looking at the expression on your face. so -- i guess i ask you, lindsey graham is saying this, the tone of the debate last night ultimately is that damaging to the republican brand? >> well, look, first of all, think about this. before reince priebus and the rnc took control of the debates we would have been on our 23rd debate last night going on the last election, it was the 10th debate. whatever we do or don't like and how much people are repeating themselves, imagine if on 23? the first thing. look, this is a president of the united states. of course they're going after each other. talking about what marco did last night, it's pretty important to keep in mind what he was really trying to do. trying to land punches on donald trump but also trying to signal to all voters he's the donald trump alternative, and you're not going to do that unless you really go after somebody. so, of course, you're going to have a real punchup on the debate stage and they'll go back and forth. marco did that, by the way. now established as the person that's going after donald trump. the only way to do that, this isn't bean bag, as they say. this is politics, they're going after each other. >> so has it come down, john, to a two-man race? are all the others out of the picture? >> i don't know you could say a two-man race, because ted cruz is still up in texas. a big prize on super tuesday coming up and marco rubio still has yet to be in the lead in any of those key states. he's got to make up a lot of ground. one reason he came out of the gates fighting. what was striking, though, i thought, ben carson gone from someone who led in the polls to a curiosity act talking about the fruit salad of life. just a surreally epically weird debate of free association. john kasich tried to put forward a very responsible policy-driven case, deserves credit for that but overwhelmed in the overall optics. >> what i thought about john kasich, wandered into the wrong party. >> he --walked into the wrong debate. the issues, policies of debate, kind of where we are right now. john kasich had talking points, has his approach. specifically is trying to be sort of the adult in the room and not get involved in that stuff, but pretty -- it was pretty much the wrong night to try that approach. >> so mike, is it time for those other two candidates, john kasich and ben carson to just call it a day? just get out of the way and let the process be the process? >> no. i mean, look, that's for them to decide. i think voters will decide it, but what marco was doing was putting himself in a place to make it easier for the voters to make that decision going into super tuesday. if marco consistently -- i don't know he has to win a lot of states or even a state. bill clinton did win a state until the sixth contest. we're asking is, is donald trump going to run away with it? maybe. or capped at 35%. one alternative, fight him. if marco keeps finishes second and what he did last night continues, his super pac is attacking donald trump. what really needs to happen for one of these candidates, turn their tv fire power on to the front-runner if they are going to take him out. it that happens voters themselves will say marco's is the alternative, we'll see it reflected in results on tuesday. >> see what happens going forward, as they say. mike shields, errol louis and john, thank you for being with us. is it true donald trump hired undocumented workers, broke the law and took jobs from americans? a cnn reality check, next. let me talk to you about retirement. a 401(k) is the most sound way to go. let's talk asset allocation. sure. you seem knowledgeable, professional. would you trust me as your financial advisor? i would. i would indeed. well, let's be clear here. i'm actually a dj. [ dance music plays ] [laughs] no way! i have no financial experience at all. that really is you? if they're not a cfp pro, you just don't know. find a certified financial planner professional who's thoroughly vetted at letsmakeaplan.org. cfp -- work with the highest standard. (vofights mess right.ghtweight 4-in-1 attacks three strong litter box odors, plus locks clumps tight. ... and now it's light. every home, every cat. there's a tidy cats for that. i love my sister. my heart doesn't see race. love is love. nart marco rubio really wants you to google polish workers. he unloaded accusing the front-runner of taking jobs from american and breaking the law because trump hired undocumented workers from poland to work at his facilities. rubio repeatedly challenged voters to look up the facts for themselves. >> you're hired a significant number of people from other countries to take jobs that americans could have filled. my mom was a maid at a hotel and instead of hiring an american like her you have brought in over 1,000 people from all over the world to fill those jobs instead. >> he hired workers from poland and had to pay $1 million or so in a judgment from -- >> that's wrong. totally wrong. >> that's a fact. people can look it up. i'm sure people are googling it right now. polish workers, you'll see $1 million for hiring illegal workers on one of his projects. >> that happened. >> i hired tens of thousands of people over my lifetime. >> many from other countries instead of hiring americans. >> hey, people were googling. google trend says trump polish workers was the top trending search related to trump audit. but we want to going's, cnn money chief christine romans who's been fact checking all of this. what did you find out? >> google says a 300% surge in severance for trump polish workers at that time. indeed people took marco rubio's advice. carol, marco rubio hitting on a new line of fire guess donald trump here. what marco rubio is painting, saying donald trump is crusading as an immigration restrictionist, yet has used the immigration system legal and illegal to the benefit of his own businesses. first trump polish workers. when he was demolishing a building to help put up trump tower before he put up trump tower, a legal case that went on for years and a court -- donald trump was fined for illegally hiring workers in that case. so that allegation is true. i don't know where marco rubio got the million dollars. it's, the court never revealed the final settlement but the million dollar part we can't verify. indeed, donald trump was fined. a court fined him for hiring illegal workers. the second part of the story. you heard how marco rubio said that donald trump uses labor in his florida maralago resort. could hard people like marco rubio's mom or dad. true. he uses legal guest workers to import foreign laber to work short times at his resort from eastern europe but can come from a lot of places. donald trump used these legal programs. some of them. h1b program, 81,000 people can do that. foreign workers who come to the u.s. h2a, agriculture workers. unlimited. h3b, would, in landscaping and hotels. donald trump's maralago used a visa program to bring in foreigners to do jobs that in some cases americans apply for but don't get because donald trump said publicly, some americans don't have the skills he needs or won't work a few months in palm beach. >> christine romans, thank you very much. very enlightening. thank you so much. any minute now we're expecting new information into the deadly shooting at a kansas manufacturing plant and learning more about a possible motive. the sheriff says cedric ford was just served with an order of protection. officials won't say who the order protected but those orders your usually filed because of some type of violence in a relationship. ford returned to work and four people were killed, 14 others injured. >> served a. a at 3:30 in the afternoon by one of my deputies. i believe that probably is the trigger, and it went from there, by 5:00, he had shot his first victim. and as it went on he ended up shooting 17. >> the first officer to arrive on the scene is being called a hero for stopping the rampage. investigators will hold a news conference in a few minutes. when that starts, of course, we'll take you back there live. if you have moderate to severe plaque psoriasis... isn't it time to let the real you shine through? >> devalue currencies that making it -- >> then make them in america. >> you don't know anything about business. >> make them in america. a guy that inherited $200 million. if he hadn't, you know where donald trump would be right now? >> no, no, no. >> selling watches in manhattan. >> you're wrong. i -- >> that is so. >> that is so wrong. >> the rubio campaign is running with that watch line advertising a busted trump watch for $10 on the campaign's website. jason carroll live in dallas talking to rubio supporters. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, carol. you know, i spoke to rubio, an aide before the debate. he made it very clear the main goal going into the debate was to get trump into the ring, so to speak, and land a few punches, and certainly a number of rubio supporters out here feel as though he did just that, hitting trump hard on issues you saw, immigration and the health care, hoping, carol, that's going to give them momentum going into super tuesday. certainly a number of supporters here feel as though rubio won that debate. i want to bring two of them in for you right now. we've got both doris and debbie. they are sisters, and they are both also united in their support for senator marco rubio. tell me how you feel he did last night? you told me earlier you feel as though a different, stronger marco rubio showed up last night for that debate? >> absolutely. he's been our guy for, since day one. but last night it was a perfect platform for him to really give content and put trump in his place, texas is definitely, you know, rubio republicans. and -- >> reporter: some wore argue cruz country? you say, no? >> i say no. a lot of the younger generation are onboard with rubio and he resonates with us, with all of his platforms, and like you said, his mantra about being children of the reagan revolution and ready to take the man on in leadership, i firmly believe in that. that totally took me over the top. >> reporter: get your sister in here as well. >> what do you think the way he went after trump? >> i just love the way he answered everything. >> that's it. >> so impressed. >> reporter: appreciate you both being here. carol, again, the camp hoping this is going to give him momentum going into florida where trump is leading him in a recent poll by double digit numbers. >> jason carroll reporting live. thank you. live to wichita, kansas, now. authorities holding a press conference on that terrible shooting an excel industries where a gunman with a rifle opened fire killing three people and wounding 14. let's listen. >> -- on the map, how this kind of unfolded yesterday afternoon. around 5:00, 911 took a call of a shooting victim located here. this will be the first one, which is at about meridian and 12th, in that area. a man driving with his two children was shot. he got shot in the shoulder. a second car coming this way was also shot at. she did not get hit. a miracle. it just missed her. went through the windshield. officers responded, newton p.d., sheriff officers responded within three minutes, working that. as they're there, another report comes in over here at number two, which is about, the old 81 and 36, close to the meridian. report is, another person is shot. what happened at this location is the shooter went head-on to the oncoming traffic. both vehicles went off into the ditch. the shooter was getting out of his car. the driver getting out of his car, and the shooter shoots that driver. the shooter then takes that victim's car. travels on up here to where excel is. once he gets to excel, he goes to the northeast section of the building, exits, and shoots an individual who was in the parking lot. he then enters the doors at the northeast corner of the building and goes inside. a sheriff's deputy pulls up in the parking lot and reports that he is being fired upon. the deputy was not hurt. the shooter then goes into the building, and at that point shoots 14 more people. 3 of those were fatalities. a hesston police officer, the response, goes in to where the shooting is occurring and meets the shooter towards the front office area of excel. they exchange fire. the hesston police officer shoots and kills, and this is his name, cedric larry keith ford, 38-year-old man. cedric was armed with an assault rifle, and automatic pistol. mr. ford, who was residing in newton, kansas, had been served pfa, that's a protection order, at 3:30 that afternoon. 3:30, he gets served. 5:00, we have the first shooting. currently we have 14 people in various hospitals, newton medical center, wesley and saint francis. those conditions range from stable to critical, and one going into surgery as we speak. involved in this operation is a number of agencies. kbi currently is doing the crime scene investigation. of excel. fbi is here doing numerous interviews. atf is here. atf is here to help us with the guns and weapons. again, this is a tragic event for the city of heston and harvey county. we're going to get through this. we're going to do it right. we're going to make sure this investigation is concluded. we have jobs to do. people have been tasked to do their jobs. they're going to do their jobs and then we'll take care of ourselves later. with that -- >> i'm paul mullet, ceo of excel, i have a statement and have copies for everyone. excel is deeply saddened by the horrific event that occurred yesterday. our hearts go out to our employees and their families who are enduring this tragedy. our first priority has been and will remain the safety and wellness of our employees. we are fully cooperating with the law enforcement agencies and the red cross. our internal teams are fulling engaged in crisis management. we are thankful for all of the support we are receiving during this very difficult situation. thank you for your concern. that's all i have at this time. >> notification has been made for all of those that have been deceased. those names will be released later when i get the final coroner's report. that could be the end of today or first of tomorrow. with that, i would take questions at this time. >> can you go into the protection order a little bit more? "lying ted cruz and lightweight choker marco rubio teamed up last night in a last-ditch effort to stop our great movement. they famed." face it, sabrina, donald trump leads -- he leads everywhere. he's going to win super tuesday, right? unless this really did work. >> look, i mean, i think it was about time that somebody tried to take down trump, but i do fear that it was too little, too late. the reality is, when you look at some of the online polls that came out after last night, "time" found 71% of viewers still thought trump came out ahead to only about 18% who thought rubio won last night. i think what people are forgetting, this is really hard for us here in washington and new york to really accept, that whether or not you like trump doesn't matter. the reality is, there are a lot of people out there who don't like washington, don't like politics as usual. they don't like anything that wreaks of the republican establishment. it doesn't really matter if he came out with great punches, and he did, no doubt, but i'm not sure it's going to be enough to get a lot of those trump voters to jump ship. >> here's the thing, though -- >> i think the mange thing here. >> -- marco rubio's team is reassuren donors, developing a plan for a brokered convention. if marco rubio loses tuesday, he's going to make sure he wins? >> look, i think he's putting out different scenarios so he keeps his donor base, you know, not looking at, he must either drop out or continue with victories on super tuesday, and i think that's limiting expect aces of saying, we can make this into a longer contest. i think that's part of the reason why these attacks that you saw last night were so effective. it may not turn everything around for rubio or cruz, but if ted cruz can win texas. if rubio can have always showings they can both continue on and then you deal with john kasich and ben carson. do they stay in? even viable candidates? but last night i think there was two things that happened for the first time. one, there was true doubt put on donald trump's record specifically with what is he hiding in his tax returns? that is going to be a message you're going to hear not just from one of these campaigns but from all of them. hey, you came after ted cruz on his loan, that one form, but on another? we don't know what's in your tax returns. this excuse that, well, they're complex, they've already been done. they're already finished. i'm sure they were -- >> he's being audited. >> and saying you've been audited does not help you in this. one big thing. the other, illegal immigration issue and donald trump walked into a trap when he said, well, i have a big company, i have a lot of people under me. i'm a multibillionaire. if you cannot handle the affairs of your own business, why do i think you can handle the affairs for the entire united states of america when it comes to immigration reform and national security ji saying your business was too big to handle and too many subcontractors, his business is huge you but the u.s. government is a lot bigger than that. i think somewhere else he's got a problem. >> sabrina? >> yeah. well, these are all -- rubio made tremendous sort of gains last night in the sense that he made very fair points, and if i were trump's campaign, i would be thinking, if it's not rubio it's going to be hillary who's going to make these same claims. he ought to be prepared. every single thing that rubio threw at him last night was fair game and some really good points in there. the problem, i think is that trump represents something different. he doesn't just represent one voter out there. there's democrats, there's independents, there's republicans who support him and i'm not sure they're going to care enough about some of these issues. what they want is something different, even if for those of us here on this show today we think he may seem like a fraud, that's not the case to a lot of americans out there and i think that's hard for us to wrap our minds around. >> all right. i have to leave it there. have to leave it there, ben. sorry. ben ferguson, sabrina schaffer, thanks so much for being with me this morning. and up next, cnn, one-on-one with donald trump. let me talk to you about retirement. a 401(k) is the most sound way to go. let's talk asset allocation. sure. you seem knowledgeable, professional. would you trust me as your financial advisor? i would. i would indeed. well, let's be clear here. i'm actually a dj. tweeting during the debate saying look, your reasoning for not releasing the taxes, it doesn't make any sense. you could release it, even though you're being audited, or if you didn't want to do it, you could release other plans. >> i know the audit process very well. i've been audited for many years. i have friends that are rich that have never been audited. but until it's complete, you don't do was standing right next to him. i said are you okay. it looked like he came out of a swimming pool, he was soaking wet. >> so jeffrey, you worked for ronald reagan, would he say something like that? >> well, ronald reagan had a pretty good sense of humor about a lot of things. carol, here is the important thing. is trump reagan like in many respects, sure, but no two human sol souls are alike. what's disturbing america is ronald reagan did so accurately in 1980, they're the same. all classes, all, i mean, latinos, you know, men, women, all ages, all income levels. they are in that respect >> used his sense of humor in that way. >> they're not the same. right, they're not the same personality, of course not. of course not. they're two totally different people. i mean, everyone on earth won, came in a close second in iowa, and won new hampshire and south carolina, and nevada, overwhelmingly. i mean at some point, we have to stop and think, why are people responding to donald trump. it's not just because of his insults. when he says things like this, they see a blunt honesty, instead of a phoniness that a lot of pol fish shans have. when marco rubio talks about these things, and being a con artist, i mean, this is the man from the gang of eight. i mean, a lot of people see this kind of thing, it's just political talk and this is what gets us into trouble in the first place. >> but i think last night, marco rubio did more than insult donald trump, he threw a lot of fact his way. >> to answer your question, no, donald trump is not anything like ronald reagan. he wasn't a hypocrite bully of the conservative movement, which is what donald trump is. donald trump has been misleading people all of this time with this rhetoric and insults and showmanship. he has tapped into anger with the american people, that's true. but i don't know what his take in the republicans this long to point out donald trump's record of h of. illegal immigrants to build the trump towers. i will le illegal immigrants in washington, d.c. four bankruptciebankruptcies, a that sues everyone whenever they say something about him or point out his behavior, he will sue them. those are not attributes that ronald reagan ever had, and what they hear donald trump stands for in his own words and seeing it there, i don't know what took them so long. it should have been done six months ago. >> so jeffrey, how do you respond to that? because what tara said is true. there is a froaud case. he does have bankruptcies in his past. he did hire people from outside the country. >> over americans. >> look, they're part of the price of doing business. now has he made mistakes in his business career, sure. but how many businesses has rubio owned. how many people has he employed. when you're looking at marco rubio, he has never hired anybody for a job for an official public sector, the public trough if you will in his life. this is what he does. >> okay, so donald trump is a businessman, right? so how is he going to stop other businessmen from making the wise business choices that he supposedly did to increase -- how is he going to convince them to do these things. >> are you saying how can he keep an eye on other businessmen? >> yeah, i made a lot of money by hiring people from outside, now i want you to stop. >> i'll give you a quick example. joseph kennedy, the i mean, do they think that's a real possibility? >> well, the joke for a long time in mexico is, give me a 21 foot wall, and i will give you a 22 feet ladder. so people laugh about statements like that. and i was in mexico recently, and pinadas in the shape of donald trump are very popular. he has become public enemy number one for mexicans, but in a sort of like jokingly way. not really. mexican officials, former presidents, not only vicente fox, but his predecessor have had very harsh things to say about trump, but i don't think the mexican people as a whole are listening to these messages as something coming from the united states as a whole, but only in the context of a very heated presidential contest, carol. >> and juan carlos, talking about hispanics within the united states, a powerful voting block, so trump says hispanics love him, but according to a poll, 81% of hispanics nationwide have an unfavorable view of trump. are any of the other candidates on stage faring better, and can donald trump say anything to make hispanics love him again? >> that's going to be tough. it's interesting to see how he might turn it around. we have to look at recent history. mitt romney spoke about self-deportation. he never recovered with hispanics and did very poorly in the election. john mccain, who was and has been an advocate for immigration reform and for humane treatment undocumented immigrants, he had a hard line during the primaries, he wasn't able to recover, even though he had a good track record with latino voters. so an interesting thing was that last night, people seem to associate latinos with immigration, that's not the only issue, but it gets people worked up. what donald trump has said so far will be very difficult to backtrack and try to convince latinos. he said he won the latino vote in nevada, he won in the nevada caucuses, but the latinos who participate in caucuses are a very small percentage of the latino population. >> i think the latinos, numbered, 150 at the most. - african-american votes, so few participated in the caucuses, there was no count available. so it's a very interesting phenomenon in the state of nevada. we have to wrap it there. rafael, juan carlos, thanks to both of you. a workplace shooting in kansas, new details about the gunman and the hero cop who took him down. >>perfect. no tickets. no accidents... >>that is until one of you clips a food truck, ruining your perfect record. >>yup... now, you would think your insurance company would cut you some slack, right? >>no. your insurance rates go through the roof. your perfect record doesn't get you anything. >>anything. perfect! for drivers with accident forgiveness, liberty mutual won't raise your rates due to your first accident. and if you do have an accident, our claim centers are available to assist you 24/7. for a free quote, call liberty mutual at switch to liberty mutual and you could save up to $509 call today at see car insurance in a whole new light. liberty mutual insurance. the gunman who opened fire on his coworkers in kansas. he has been identified as 38-year-old cedric ford, the harvey county sheriff says one its deputies visited ford at work to serve an order of protection. later that day, ford opened fire and several locations, killing three people and wounding 14. sheriff says he chose his victims randomly. rosa flores live in heston, kansas with more. good morning, rosa. >> good morning, carol. we are learning more disturbing and also heroic details about this rampage, but let me take you through this. it all starts, according to the sheriff, at 3:30 yesterday afternoon, with the sheriff's deputy serve a protective order to mr. ford at the plant that you see behind me. after that, he says that ford became a bit upset. well, fast forward an hour and a half, and the first shot is fired about six miles from here. from, according to the sheriff, ford shot an individual on the shoulder. and then moved forward to another intersection, and shot someone on the leg, and then came here to this parking lot that you see behind me, and started shooting people in the parking lot. shooting one person. then going inside, and also continuing that rampage. now, here are some of the heroic details. we're told there is a police officer who went into this building and started to try to control the situation and he did. take a listen. >> that particular officer is a hero out of all of this. understand, there is probably two or 300 more people in that building while this is going on. this man was not going to stop shooting. the only reason he stopped shooting is because that officer stopped the shooter. >> now, that police officer is being called a hero. his name is not being released, because this is an officer involved shooting, and needs to be investigated as such. but carol, when it comes to motive, the sheriff here says that right now, the preliminary motive that they have is that protective order that was served to mr. ford by a sheriff's deputy. >> all right, rosa flores, reporting life from kansas this morning. thank you. and good morning, i'm a carol costello, thank you so much for joining me. it was an evening of insults and personal attacks during the gop on cnn. marco rubio attacking trump's character, ted cruz questioning the billionaire's conservative credentials. trump fought back, counter punches of his own. some highlights. >> ladies and gentlemen, welcome to republican candidates for president of the united states. >> welcome to it ex as. >> when you're the only person on the stage that's ever been fined for hiring people to work on your projects illegally, you hired -- >> i'm the only one that hired people. you haven't hired anybody. >> let me say, i really find it amazing that donenal believald that he is the one that illegal immigration. >> first of all, i don't believe anything telumondo says. governor kasich. >> let's talk about the plan. >> it says five things. everyone is dumb, you're going to make america great again, win, win/win, winning in the polls. >> people say that i whine a lot because i don't get time. i'm going to whine. >> you get along with nobody. >> if you want to be liked in washington, that's not a good attribute for a president. >> you don't learn anything about somebody's wealth with a tax return. >> gentlemen, this is -- i want to move on. i want to talk about the economy. >> the government doesn't support health care. >> you have -- i mean, first of all, this guy is a choke artist and this guy is a liar. >> it's not a real estate deal. >> no, no, no. a deal is a deal. let me tell you, i learned a lot time ago. >> hold on. he doesn't get to yell insults. >> these are the rules. you will have a response, but i promised governor kasich. >> can somebody attack me, please? >> i'm sorry. that was ben carson saying that. can someone attack me, please. i want to get a word in edge wise. it's hard to put into words what happened at this debate. perhaps this imagine sums it up best. the closed captioning personed, unintelligible yelling at one point. so did voters learn anything that will help them on super tuesday, right around the corner, and could well decide who the republican nominee will be. with me now to talk about this, christopher buzzby, president of the houston young republicans, and amy clark, advice chair of the republican party of texas. welcome to both of you. amy. >> thank you. >> thank you. >> thank you, both for being with me. amy, have you ever seen a debate quite like this one? >> no. it was fantastic. i think a good word to describe it would be robust. we were very excited, though, to hear the republican message over and over, limiting government, conservative principles, i'm glad america is engaged in talking about that this morning. >> is that what we heard, christopher? >> well, i thought it was definitely entertainment politics at its best. you heard a lot of one-liners, candidates going back and fort trying to sell their message, but going back and forth why their candidate wasn't fit to be president. different perspectives and hear from the different candidates. >> okay, so christopher, right, right, you said it was interesting to -- and i know you're leaning towards support ted cruz, right? so cruz repeatedly kept donald trump on whether he is a true conservative. and then there was this. >> donald, donald, i understand rules are very hard for you. you're have been ve confused. >> tv show -- >> donald. >> thank you for the book. thank you for the book. >> go ahead. >> donald, you can get back in the -- >> a lot of photos. i have to tell you. >> donald, relax. >> i'm relaxed. you're basket case. >> okay, so donald trump ended the exchange calling ted cruz a basket case, but you know, not many people are really mentioning ted cruz today. i find that intriguing. because cruz was also on the attack. at many points, amy, he seemed like a third wheel in attacking donald trump and donald trump attacking marco rubio. >> yeah, i think it was a very interesting exchange between the three of them. agreed, the other two candidates didn't seem to get the same amount of time. but i know that ted cruz feels very comfortable here in texas. he definitely has the home field advantage. the support of our governor and our former governor and our lieutenant governor as well. obviously the polls vary. some show him ten points ahead, some in a tie. i'm excited to let the voters decide on tuesday. we're very glad to be part of super tuesday. earliest texas has had a primary. 155 delegates at stake. that's a big deal. >> we have some intriguing video to show you. wait, christopher, i have this video to show our viewers. what you're about to see, what is it ted cruz and marco rubio shaking hands behind donald trump's back. okay, so, like i said, it was a debate like no other, right? so doesn't that prove the point, maybe there was some agreement between these two men, unspoken or spoken, they were going to gang up on donald trump and see what happens? >> well, think it was very clear that donald trump was the man to attack last night. because he is the front-runner at this point. and i think most polls show that. ted cruz will probably win texas. it's his home state. he seems to have a polling advantage. but donald trump is the man to beat it. you know, if they focus their attacks on each other, it becomes -- it was clear he was the one they wanted to bring down. >> amy, when all is said and done, who has the momentum now and who lost it? >> i think in texas, cruz has the momentum. across the nation, trump has the momentum. and so you know, we'll see a lot after super tuesday about which direction the rest of the republican is going to go. we'll see where most voters find that they can see which candidate they support, which candidates are still viable. so we'll know more on wednesday. >> and the important thing is that the republican fight is in november when we take it to the democrats. that's what we're focused on, keeping our eye on the ball. >> thank you both of you. >> thank you. >> still to come in the newsroom, for some supporting donald trump, it's a family affair. see the sizzling sister act, that's gained fame online and helping trump gain african-american voters. it takes a lot of work... to run this business. but i really love it. i'm on the move all day long... and sometimes, i just don't eat the way i should. so i drink boost® to get the nutrition that i'm missing. boost complete nutritional drink has 26 essential vitamins and minerals, including calcium and vitamin d to support strong bones and 10 grams of protein to help maintain muscle. all with a great taste. i don't plan on slowing down any time soon. look for savings on boost® in your sunday paper. thsometimes you can't evento graimagine.h. that's the job. and she's the one who's proven she can get it done. ...securing a massive reduction in nuclear weapons... ...standing up against the abuse of women... ...protecting social security... ...expanding benefits for the national guard... ...and winning health care for 8 million children... the presidency is the toughest job in the world and she's the one who'll make a real difference for you. i'm hillary clinton and i approved this message. aren't moving in the right direction, bers it can be a burden. but what if you could wake up to lower blood sugar? >> well, you know, i think that ted cruz and marco rubio, they're both snakes. >> that's right. >> when i look at marco rubio, marco rubio told us to google donald trump, but i did one better. i googled him. and when i googled him, you know, he owes america and the gay community an apology. because it sounds like that he may have had a gay lifestyle in his past. >> what? >> he owes people an apology. >> no, lynnette. >> all you have to do is goog i will. >> lynnette. >> you'll see it. that's what is on google. you have to shall cautious when you tell people to google people. we don't know. so we'll say allegedly. he shouldn't have told people to google donald -- >> we did our own fact check, and we found donald trump did indeed hire workers from outside of the united states to work in his various hotels, in marco rubio -- mar-a-lago. >> he knows how create jobs, he hires people. that's who we need in our country. >> rochelle, donald trump says illegal immigrants, undocumented immigrants are taking americans jobs, but he is getting people from outside of the country and hiring them instead of americans. that doesn't bother you, rochelle. >> go ahead. whichever of you wants to respond. >> what bothers me is our unemployment is high. you have people that is homeless, veterans not being taken care of. you have illegal immigrants being taken care of better than our veterans. that's what's bothering me right now. >> lynnette, do you think that donald trump was hurt in this debate since you know cruz and rubio ganged up on him? >> no. i don't think donald trump was hurt. he did a fphenomenal job. >> that's right. >> straighten siders. they all take and no action, and they not going to do a thing for the american people. >> that's right. >> they are okay with the american people, american citizens dying in the streets. two american immigrants are okay with american peoples dying in the streets? no, they -- people see who they are. >> that's right. >> if you go vote, go vote right or you will get left. vote for donald j. trump. >> i do want to ask you about african-american for donald trump, because there doesn't appear to be much. you know, in looking at the exit polls from nevada, so few african-americans participated in the caucus, you know, there was really no data available. >> well, see, that's the same thing you all said about the hispanics. and look at what he did in nevada. >> duh? >> but black people -- >> but very few hispanics showed up in the caucus. he got 150 people. 150 hispanics in the whole state of nevada. >> donald trump is going to do well with the african-american vote. >> that's right. >> he'll do well with the latino vote. media, stop pushing your agenda. we the people will decide. we have a man working for the people, and this here will be decided by the people. not the media and not the establishment. >> that's right. we already have people going to ditch and switch.com to switch their parties from democrats and independent to republican, just to vote for donald trump, in these primaries they're doing just that. they're doing it in droves. you'll be surprised. >> i'll google it and find out. >> google it. google it. >> all right, thanks to both of you. lynnette and rochelle. still to come. >> thank you. >> you're welcome. still to come in the newsroom, voters in south carolina prepare to have their say as the democratic primary takes place tomorrow. we'll take you to south carolina next. ra helping to relieve my pain and protect my joints from further damage. this is humira giving me new perspective. doctors have been prescribing humira for ten years. humira works for many adults. it targets and helps to block a specific source of inflammation that contributes to ra symptoms. humira can lower your ability to fight infections, including tuberculosis. serious, sometimes fatal infections and cancers, including lymphoma, have happened, as have blood, liver and nervous system problems, serious allergic reactions, and new or worsening heart failure. before treatment get tested for tb. tell your doctor if you've been to areas where certain fungal infections are common, and if you've had tb, hepatitis b, are prone to infections, or have flu-like symptoms or sores. don't start humira if you have an infection. talk to your doctor and visit humira.com. this is humira at work. parking is hard to find. seems like everyone drives. and those who do should switch to geico because you could save hundreds on car insurance. ah, perfect. valet parking. evening, sir. hello! here's the keys. and, uh, go easy on my ride, mate. hm, wouldn't mind some of that beef wellington... to see how much you could save on car insurance, go to geico.com. ah! (car alarm sounds) it's ok! you back out to dallas, texas for just a minute. as you can see, marco rubio rally is about to get underway. we're awaiting the candidate. he was expected to come out maybe a half hour ago. but he had a very busy morning, and of course, a very long night, after the cnn debate. this morning, he appeared on many morning shows, with a new line of attack against donald trump, calling him a con artist. we'll monitor this and see what he has to say to all of these people gathered to hear him today. let's talk about south carolina now. for the second time in a week, the political universe will center on that state, only this time, for the democrats. bernie sanders and hillary clinton making their final pitches to voters ahead of tomorrow's primary. clinton with a sizable lead, but that's not stopping her or sapd sanders from barnstorming the state. good morning. >> good morning, carol, the hillary rodham clinton message team, especially in e-mails, is focusing her on a general election candidate over the last 24 hours, but here on the ground in south carolina, it's been all about getting out the vote with the possible exception of the next hour, when she jets off to atlanta, for an event there. then comes back here to south carolina, where she, her husband, the former president, and even chelsea clinton, their daughter, have been canvassing the state, trying to run up the vote in the primary on tuesday, and trying to show weakness on the part of bernie sanders. of course, one of those situations here in this state is that she may have a weakness of her own. that weakness would be questions that bernie sanders has raised about hillary clinton releasing transcripts of her speeches to wall street banks. she has been hit by sanders about it. hit by "the new york times" about it. and she was asked about it this morning on mmsnbc. listen. >> i want people to look at my record. people are treating me sometimes as i just decided to run for president. i've been on the record on a lot of these issues for a really long time. the real question underneath this is, okay, if you take money from wall street. >> right. >> can you regulate wall street. >> barack obama took more money from wall street than any other candidate that has ever run for president. turned around and passed the dod d frank bill. i think you should be judged on what you've done. >> closing arguments here in south carolina, just about over. the voting begins tomorrow, carol. >> all right, joe reporting live. thanks. i'll be right back. and energy to stay healthy. who's with me?! yay! the complete balanced nutrition of great tasting ensure. with 9 grams of protein and 26 vitamins and minerals. ensure. take life in! thisever since i hadw me. a pretty bad accident. the medical bills all piled up. so i signed up for experian. they helped educate me on how debt affected my fico score. now my credit and i - are both healing nicely. go to experian.com and start your credit tracker trial membership today. man 1: he just got fired. man 2: why? man 1: network breach. man 2: since when do they fire ceos for computer problems? man 1: they got in through a vendor. man 1: do you know how many vendors have access to our systems? man 2: no. man 1: hundreds, if you don't count the freelancers. man 2: should i be worried? man 1: you are the ceo. it's not just security. it's defense. bae systems. iand i'm jerry bell the third. i'm like a big bear and he's my little cub. this little guy is non-stop. he's always hanging out with his friends. you've got to be prepared to sit at the edge of your seat and be ready to get up. there's no "deep couch sitting." definitely not good for my back. this is the part i really don't like right here. (doorbell) what's that? a package! it's a swiffer wetjet. it almost feels like it's moving itself. this is kind of fun. that comes from my floor? eww! this is deep couch sitting. [jerry bell iii] deep couch sitting! all right, i will said goodbye and leave you with marco rubio speaking to his supporters in dallas, texas. have a great weekend. >> thank you. thank you, dallas. thank you for having me today. thank you. thank you. man, this is an important election. i'm so glad to be here in big d. everything is bigger in texas. the only place that makes florida seem small. such a big place. so thank you for coming. this a huge election, all right. it's a big -- as big as this crowd. this is how big and important this election is. that's why we're getting closer now. these votes are starting to count. what you're going to do on tuesday is not a poll. it is a vote. it counts. what we are being asked to choose is not just a future of our country. that is ultimately what this election is about. but also the future of the conservative movement. what it means to be a conservative in the 21st century. for 36 years, okay, for 36 years, the conservative movement, after the reagan revolution, has been about limited government and about free enterprise, and about a strong national defense. that was the reagan revolution. it changed the country in a way that reembraced all of the principles that made us the greatest country in the world. but now, we're being asked to choose once again. what will it mean in the 21st century. so if the polls are to be believed, and the election results from some of the states continue to go, then we have to view what will the conservative movement be like if the front-runner in this race right now, donald trump, is put in charge of the conservative movement. so last night, we had a chance to talk about that. it's time to pull his mask off, so that people can see what we're dealing with here. what we are dealing with here, my friends, is a con artist. he is a con artist. first of all, he runs on this idea that he is fighting for the little guy. but he has spent his entire career sticking it to the little guy. his entire career. all right, every business that he has ever run that's gone bankrupt, this guy bankrupted a casino. how do you bankrupt a casino. how do you bankrupt a casino? all right, but when all of these projects went bankrupt, you know the first people that didn't get paid, the leelectricians and subcontractors, some went out of business because he didn't pay them. he's fighting for the little guy, what about the students that signed up for trump university. a fake school. some of
