PETALING JAYA: Following the outcry over an actor making light of a rape scene, national diver Datuk Pandelela Rinong has disclosed that she was bullied by a former coach after she ticked him off for his bawdy jokes.
Malaysians are urged to take a stand against rape culture and other gender-based violence in light of actor Fauzi Nawawi’s recent rape comments on a talk show.
KUALA LUMPUR: Women’s groups and activists have spoken out against actor Fauzi Nawawi’s comments during a talk show where he made light of a rape scene in a film he acted.
PETALING JAYA: As recent incidents have put the systemic rape culture in Malaysia under the spotlight, women’s rights advocates are calling for an end to this, saying the country is in need of societal changes.More comprehensive laws and plans are also needed to stamp out rape culture, which is perpetuated by misogynistic language, the objectification of women’s bodies as well as the glamorisation and normalisation of sexual violence, they said.
