Short-term use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) is associated with a first-time hospitalization for heart failure in patients with type 2 diabetes, according to research presented at ESC Congress 2022.

Researchers in Denmark found that medications like ibuprofen and naproxen increase the risk of heart problems, especially among older diabetics.

The authors say doctors who are safely prescribing both may be doing a good job of explaining how to avoid serious interactions.

There is a scarcity of real-world data showing that using both types of drugs together increases these risks.
