The skull of a pliosaur, a prehistoric sea monster, was discovered on a beach in Dorset, England, and it could reveal secrets about these awe-inspiring creatures.

The pliosaur is believed to have terrorised the oceans 150 million years ago

Scientists marvel at the fossilised head of an underwater 'killing machine' from the Jurassic.

The formidable fossil, found in Dorsets Jurassic Coast, stretches almost seven feet long and belonged to a marine reptile known as a pliosaur.

The 2m-long fossil is one of the most complete specimens of its type ever discovered.

The deadly Pilosaur was the ultimate killing machine in the ocean around 150 million years ago and has been dug up from the cliffs of Dorset's Jurassic Coast

The complex and dangerous operation to extract the gigantic skull will be shown in a David Attenborough BBC documentary on New Year's Day.

Some large, meat-eating dinosaurs such as Tyrannosaurus rex had keyhole-shaped eye sockets, and reconstructions suggest this helped them bite with greater force

How a baby T-Rex bites Researchers use 3D modelling to examine the jaws of different-sized tyrannosaurs. Finite element analysis results for an adult Tyrannosaurus rex (FMNH PR 2081) jaw demonstrating a range of biting stresses. Blue and green (cool colors) denote the lowest amount of stresses experienced whereas red and white (hot colors) display the highest.
