Designed in 1942 by Reginald Davis Johnson, the Village Green is a highly regarded example of a modernist garden city. The low-rise residential buildings face an open green space, and the site is landscaped with mature trees and paths intended to give city dwellers a taste of the country. The complex was designated a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument in 1977 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1993.
