Santa Cruz City Council votes to ax heritage redwood tree

The 120 foot-tall twin-trunked coast redwood on Walnut Avenue near Santa Cruz High School will face the ax after the Santa Cruz City Council denied the appeal to save the tree at the council meeting Tuesday. A local "tree whisper" will hold a farewell ceremony for the tree with students from Santa Cruz High at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
