Tuesday, 04 May 2021 Automotive giant Ford has announced that the first European customer trials of the new E-Transit – the all-electric version of the world’s best-selling cargo van – will soon be underway. Courtesy of Ford.
Prototype E-Transit vehicles will soon be joining customer fleets to operate in challenging real-world conditions with major businesses in the supermarket, home delivery, postal services and utilities sectors across Germany, Norway and the UK.
“Real-world trials are an important step on our journey to deliver the all-electric E‑Transit and will give us an even better understanding of how to help customers across different industries enhance their productivity using zero-emission power” said Andrew Mottram, E-Transit chief programme engineer, Commercial Vehicles, Ford of Europe.
Consultants working on the scheme say the plans comply with planning regulations. “The existing access onto the public road is safe with good visibility to accommodate the additional traffic movements. “Implementation of the transport management plan will ensure the local road network can absorb the type and frequency of movements without unacceptable impact on road safety. “Amending the condition will also ensure the level of current investment in the local rural economy will be sustained.” Highways officers have objected to the scheme as it constitutes a significant increase in vehicle journeys. They are concerned that local roads are not adequate for such an amount of extra traffic.
