Senate Bill 106, sponsored by Rep. Daniel Thatcher (R-West Valley City), unanimously passed out of the Senate Judiciary, Law Enforcement, and Criminal Justice Committee Thursday by a vote of 6 to 0 and will move to the full Senate for a vote. The bill would require the Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Council to “establish minimum use of force standards for all peace officers in the state and annually review and update the standards based on the most current information and best practices.” It would also require officers to follow those standards.
