Android 12 is titled with a dessert name ‘Snow Cone’. This is the first time after the release of Android Pie when Google is publicly giving a dessert-theme name to its new Android release as it abandoned that trend in 2019, with the release of Android 10.

Android version names have always been associated to dessert names since Android C, which stood for Android Cupcake. Google ditched this dessert naming scheme 2 years back with Android 10 (a.k.a Android Q). But the company hasn t completely given up on this scheme as it looks like the internal name for Android 12 could be Snow Cone.
Last year, Android 11 (Android R) was internally referred to as Red Velvet Cake, thanks to the digging inside Android s source code. Through this same method, XDA Developers was able to find many instances where the Android 12 s source code reportedly has references to “sc , that stands short for Snow Cone .

This week the first release of Android 12 is rumored to take place. This first release is expected to be called the Android 12 Developer Preview. The first Android 12 Developer Preview release will likely be relegated to Google Pixel smartphones of several sorts. If you own one of the last several Google Pixel smartphones, you’ll be in business.
This week a tip from XDA Developers suggests that Google is calling Android 12 “Snow Cone” internally. That doesn’t mean it’ll definitely be called Android Snow Cone in the public realm, but you never know!
