MANSFIELD -- Richland County commissioners are expected to put finishing touches Tuesday on a balanced 2021 general fund budget, estimated to be around $37.6 million.
The budget will maintain the county's "rainy day" fund of about $1.5 million and keep intact the same $5.6 million carryover with which the county had when it began the year.
During a year battered by the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on local government and business revenues, the county benefitted from receiving $7,675,095.04 in federal CARES Act relief funds.
Commissioners spent those funds in a variety of ways permissible under federal and state guidelines, including $2.5 million to reimburse salaries and benefits in the sheriff's department.
