JOHANNESBURG – The Mangaung municipality has confirmed its city manager Tankiso Mea has been suspended.
It’s understood councillors voted on Friday for Mea to be placed on precautionary suspension after the Free State metro was rocked by violent service-delivery protests, with residents demanding Mea s removal.

With the number of people arrested following violent protests in Mangaung now at over 70, police said they would continue to keep a close watch on the area on Wednesday as municipal workers begin to clear roads that were barricaded with rocks and debris.
The area has been rocked by protests since Monday over a lack of service delivery in the community.

CAPE TOWN - Bloemfontein police on Monday said at least 15 roads had been blocked with burning tyres, stones and debris during protests in the Mangaung Metro.
The area has been shut down blocking residents from moving in and out.
It s not yet clear what effect the shutdown has had on residents making their way to work and school, or those over 60 attempting to visit vaccination sites with phase two of the roll-out now under way.

Bloemfontein police have arrested a security guard on a charge of murder.
Demonstrators shut down the area on Sunday night and blocked at least 15 points with burning tyres, stones and debris, making it impossible for residents to move in and out of the area.
The police s Motantsi Makhele said that the security official was expected to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrates Court this week. According to information, a group of protesters attacked a warehouse in Dr Belcher Road, Bloemfontein. The security, who was alone at the time, fired a shot to scare the mob but unfortunately fatally wounded a 15-year-old boy.
