The Governing Council of the Federal University of Lokoja has appointed Professor Olayemi Akinwumi as the third Vice-Chancellor of the tertiary institution.
Chairman of the Council, Senator Chris Adighije, announced this on Friday on the premises of the university in the Kogi State capital.
He explained that the process of the appointment of a new vice-chancellor started in September when the institution declared the position vacant through publication in a national newspaper.
Senator Adighije noted that following the publication, the Council received 81 applications from various parts of the country.
He added that the applications were subjected to due process and a search party was constituted to look for people that were qualified but did not apply, leading to the shortlisting of 20 out of 81 applicants.

Mr Akinwumi, who will occupy the office for five years, has taken over from Angela Freeman Miri whose tenure expired on February 15, 2021.

Recall that the applications were later screened and 20 applicants of the 81 were shortlisted.
The Chairperson of the Governing Council, Chris Adighije, while addressing the press on Friday, said the selection board, made up of two external members of the council and two internal members from the Senate of the institution including the chairperson of the Governing Council, met on Thursday and conducted interviews for 14 applicants that appeared before the selection board.

Professor Olayemi Durotimi Akinwumi has emerged the new Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University,(FUL) Lokoja.
At a brief press conference in Lokoja on Friday, the Chairman of the screening committee, Senator Chris Adighiji who is also the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the governing Board of FUL said the committee received 81 applications from prospective qualified candidates for consideration.
He said the screening committee subjected the applications to due process and shortlisted 20 names out of the 81 applicants for the coveted position in the institution.
Explaining that the committee cleared 17 out of the 20 shortlisted candidates, he said 16 out of the 17 cleared names appeared for the interview yesterday.
