to join the chorus of critics. we re not worried that much about trump. the question is do you think that the proposal constitutes a xenophobic or bigoted proposal? i think what the american people are concerned about and the reason there is one-third of support for donald trump is because what dana bash said very well, and that is the american people are angry with washington, and they re trying to send them a message. now, i don t know in the end if those people come out in iowa and caucus on february 1st. what i do know is that we ve built an army of conservatives in iowa that we re sure that we ve identified that we re sure will come out and caucus. and so we hope to do very, very well in iowa. then we re looking toward we are competing in ham ma new ham we ll do very well in south carolina. that s how it s going to play out. it s going to play out state by state. again, we don t worry about what trump is doing. everybody else seems to worry about what trump is doing. by the
in fact, they understand that it s actually having the opposite effect because at its core, it s anger. it s anger at the establishment, anger at washington, anger at anybody who is in any position of power. and so the more those people hit donald trump, the more angry they get. so it s a very difficult situation for a lot of republicans and the quote, unquote, establishment i m talking to. and you talk about you kind of talk about paralysis. it s a pretty important word, i think, dana, in this conversation. is it paralysis are you hearing because there are hints at all that this is the reality that they have to face? nothing knocks trump off of the top. nothing he does knocks him from the top spot. reporter: this is a pretty graphic analogy, but somebody said this to me this morning. it s almost as if the patient cass cancer, the patient in this case being the republican party. and the only way to cure it is with an experimental treatment, but no doctor wants to be the first o
classic political decision that you can flip-flop if you flop over to the popular side of an issue. i think that s the calculation she made. the great risk though is that her great liability in this race so far has been the sense that she s inauthentic. and that s of course bernie sanders strength, or one of his strengths. so this lurch on this issue opens her up to another charge of inauthenticity. i think you may hear some of that on the stage on tuesday. let s talk about that and what we re going to hear on tuesday. sanders suggests that he won t necessarily criticize clinton or other opponents in tuesday s debate unless they come after him first. is it in some ways his rise motivated by anger at washington and establishment figures? in some ways doesn t he need to spell out differences to this big audience he s going to have bringing forward that passion? well, i think that those differences will be implicit in many of the things he says.
am these mornings. looks like we re going to open lower in part because of news out of europe specifically around greece. there was this idea that the eu was going to be giving over $8 billion to greece which they need by november 1st. today it looks likely that that will be delayed. does greece go bankrupt? that, of course, is the big question hanging over everything. on the issue you were talking about domestically, i spent yesterday down at those protests. i m not sure they re weighing on the markets. but they re definitely weighing on the minlds of ceos i ve talked to just worried about what this means in the larger picture. two quick pieces of good news. ford reached a deal with the uaw this morning on their labor contract. that s a positive. of course, a lot of people looking forward later today to apple s announcement of its iphone 5. there you go. andrew ross sorkin thank you very much. anger at washington. now anger at corporate america. the daily rundown will be back in 3
