The Greater Boston League’s cross-country meet took place last Thursday, May 13, at MacDonald Park against the backdrop of a perfect spring day, which featured many excellent races. It was also Medford’s Senior Day, and the Mustangs’ six graduating harriers of Rayanne Forbes, Bella Grieco, Emily Stanley, Sam Cluggish, Andrew Olivieri and Stefan Langshur were so honored for their contributions to the program the last four years.
The Medford girls sent their senior teammates off with a league championship to complete an undefeated 6-0 season rather appropriately. “They have worked hard during this time of uncertainly, and were rewarded with this win, as well as an undefeated in dual meet season,” said coach Lou Ruggiero.

The Medford High School cross-country teams took on host Somerville at the Blessing of the Bay Boat House. The temperatures were ideal for running, albeit quite windy.
The Medford boys (1-1) faced probably the top team in the Greater Boston League [GBL] this year, and as a result they lost the meet, 23-37. Despite the loss, their efforts resulted in some excellent times on the 2.5-mile course, according to coach Lou Ruggiero.
“Several of our runners showed great improvement, which is what I was looking for,” the coach added.
