UNITED NATIONS, Sep 14 (IPS) - The building sector may be overdue for a significant overhaul of the processes in which infrastructure is built to be more environmentally conscious and reduce carbon emissions, a new UN report reveals.

A UN report advises significant overhaul of the processes in which infrastructure is built to be more environmentally conscious and reduce carbon emissions.

A new report outlines pathways to decarbonize the buildings and construction sector, already responsible for 37% of global CO2 emissions and rising, with rapid urbanisation worldwide adding the buildings equivalent of a new Paris every five days. Global floor space, raw materials use may nearly double by 2060 This first-of-its-kind report was developed by leading experts from six continents and designed to unite stakeholders from across the industry to cooperate on new pathways to radically acce...

The construction sector needs to rapidly shift focus towards repurposing existing buildings and away from building new ones in order to reduce its CO2 emissions, the UN has said.

The four-year-old Center for Architecture and Ecosystems (CEA) was founded as a collaboration between Yale School of Architecture, the School of Environment, and four other colleges. The Center has thus far conducted prototyping projects in Guatemala and South Africa...
