The annual Anniversary Commemoration Service for the Battle of Kalamata, hosted by the Society of Kalamata '23 March,' brought together dozens of members, and guests at the Australian Hellenic Memorial in the Domain Gardens, Melbourne.

On Saturday, in the morning, at the Allies Memorial, New Farm, Honorary Aide-de-Camp Commander Nick Cusack RAN represented Her Excellency the Honourable Dr Jeannette Young AC PSM and attended the 78th Anniversary Commemoration Service of the Victory in Europe, and laid the first wreath. In the afternoon, at Government House, Her Excellency the Honourable Dr Jeannette Young AC PSM returned to Government House from Official travel to Cairns Regional Council. In the evening, at the United Services Club, Spring Hill, Her Excellency attended the Commemorative Dinner for the 80th Anniversary, of the sinking of the 2/3 Australian Hospital Ship Centaur, and the Governor addressed guests.

Following, at Government House, members of the public visited Open Day for Brisbane Open House for a guided tour of the estate and gardens. Following, at Parliament House, Her Excellency attended the National Council of Women of Queensland 2022 Bursary Presentation and addressed guests. In the evening at Eagle Farm, Her Excellency and Professor Nimmo attended the Opera Queensland Gala and the Governor addressed guests.

Remembering Port Arthur: A Church’s Touching Tribute On the 25th anniversary of the horrific attack, an Australian parish will hold a vigil to remember the 35 people who lost their lives. At St Peter’s Eastern Hill Anglican Church in Melbourne today, the bell will toll 35 times, marking a tragedy that continues to haunt a nation. Each bell toll will represent a person lost in the Port Arthur massacre. Twenty-five years ago today, a local man with an intellectual disability went on an indiscriminate shooting spree at Tasmania’s Port Arthur Historic Site, killing 35 people, and injuring 23. Among the dead was Melbourne schoolgirl Sarah Loughton, 15, whose mother, Carolyn, was shot in the shoulder and survived (she still suffers from her injury).
