Toms River: Driver drops cigarette, strikes two pedestrians, police say TOMS RIVER - A woman who dropped her cigarette while driving Sunday struck two pedestrians, a mailbox and two parked cars on Morris Boulevard, according to Toms River police. Michele Ventriglia, whose age and hometown were not immediately available, told authorities she was looking at her lap to retrieve her dropped cigarette around 3:45 p.m. when her car drifted to the left and struck two pedestrians walking their German shepherd, police spokeswoman Jillian Messina said. Her car then hit a mailbox and two parked cars before coming to a stop, she said.

Motorcyclist dies in Brick crash on Burnt Tavern Road BRICK - A Point Pleasant man died Sunday after he was thrown from his motorcycle in a crash at Burnt Tavern Road and Spiral Drive, Brick Police said. Christos Michael, 59, of Point Pleasant was traveling southbound on Burnt Tavern Road around 2:25 p.m. when a vehicle driven by Robin Federbush, 49, of Brick pulled in front of him from Spiral Drive, according to a news release from police. The subsequent collision threw Michael from the motorcycle, which caused lower body and internal injuries, police said. He died at the scene. Traffic along Burnt Tavern Road was detoured for five hours while authorities investigated the crash.

Get our free mobile app Police said Robin Federbush, 49, of Brick was turning left in a Hyundai Elantra from Spiral Drive to Burnt Tavern Road when she hit Christos Michael, 59, of Point Pleasant, who had the right of way at the time, and was then thrown from his Bourget Custom Motorcycle. Michael died from his injuries at the scene of the crash from lower body and internal injuries. The Brick Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit responded to the scene to investigate the crash. Vehicule traffic on Burnt Tavern Road northbound and southbound was detoured around the crash scene for about five hours, police said, during the investigation.
