Amit Shah termed the apprehensions raised by the Opposition over Constitution as “ false narrative” and said that the Narendra Modi government will neither change Constitution nor discontinue reversation rights for SC, ST and OBCs.
Protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) erupted in Assam, with effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah being burnt, and copies of the law torched. The Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) burnt effigies in Lakhimpur, while the Congress protested in Guwahati and other parts of the district. The CPI(M) and students also held demonstrations. Raijor Dal, Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti, Chatra Mukti Parishad, and MLA Akhil Gogoi protested in Sivasagar. The 12-hour Sarbatamak Hartal by the United Opposition Forum Assam (UOFA) saw partial response, with some districts observing shop closures.
