Denver city council passes bloated police budget, people stand up in opposition

Denver, CO - On November 14, activists gathered outside the city and county government building to protest the 2023 budget. The city council passed the mayor's proposed plan by a 12-1 on that day with only one minor amendment for building more crosswalks.

Protesters demand police reform after shooting of 13-year-old in Chicago

ADVERTISEMENT The majority of protests Friday were peaceful, but WLS noted that a small group of demonstrators engaged in clashes with police later in the evening. The body camera footage, released Thursday by Chicago’s Office of Police Accountability, showed Toledo in the March 29 incident running from a police officer down an alleyway before the cop ordered him to stop.  Toledo then turned around and raised his hands in a surrender pose, at which point police said they saw the 13-year-old holding a gun, though this is not immediately clear in the video.  The officer, who has since been identified as Eric Stillman, can be heard in the video telling Toledo to drop the weapon twice before shooting the 13-year-old in the chest.

Protesters gather at courthouse after shooting of Daunte Wright

Around 100 protesters gathered outside of the Hamilton County Courthouse on Thursday to protest the recent fatal shooting of 20-year-old Daunte Wright by a Minnesota police officer.  The protest began at 6 p.m. and was organized by Cincinnati for Justice and the Anti-Police Brutality Coalition.  Organizers say the event was meant to speak out against police violence, stand in solidarity with Wright's family and bring attention to the names of people killed in altercations with police in order to have their cases reopened.  "It's just not fair, but we're going to keep this fight going," said Robin Scott, whose son, 26-year-old Melvin Murray Jr., was killed after a brief pursuit with police in 2015.

Jimmy Dore Boogaloo Boys Interview Sparks Outrage Among Critics: 'You're a Sucker'

Jimmy Dore Boogaloo Boys Interview Sparks Outrage Among Critics: 'You're a Sucker' On 1/25/21 at 6:16 AM EST Comedian turned controversial political commentator Jimmy Dore has been criticized after he featured a member of the far-right Boogaloo Bois on his podcast. Dore promoted the largely uncritical interview with the militia member Magnus Panvidya by tweeting: "I interviewed a member of the Boogaloo Boys [sic], I was completely floored when he said he is: Pro LGBTQ, Pro Black Lives Matter, Anti Police Brutality, Anti Racism, Anti ICE, Anti War WTF?!?!" During the episode, Dore opens the show by assuming that Panvidya "is genuine" when he expresses a number of liberal views and calls for unity with the Left despite being a member of an extremist movement.
