Tai Tokerau paddling legend Tupuria King has reclaimed his position as the best across 500m as his whānau also recorded medal-winning performances at the Te Wananga o Aotearoa National Waka Ama Sprint Championships on Lake Karāpiro.
King, 27, came out ahead of tough opposition on Wednesday to claim his sixth premier men s one-person 500m title after his five consecutive wins from 2014 to 2018. In 2019 and 2020, Tahiti paddler Manutea Millon claimed the crown.

Pawarenga s Nga Hoe Horo waka ama team have made their intentions clear in the first few days of the Te Wānanga o Aotearoa National Waka Ama Sprint Championships on Lake Karāpiro.
The Far North team have claimed multiple medals after three days of competition at the Waikato-based event. Its junior men s team, Black Broncos, took out the six-person 1000m race by six seconds.

Two Whanganui clubs will be looking to make a splash next week when they head up to Lake Karapiro for the Te Wānanga o Aotearoa National Waka Ama Sprint Championships.
Nearly 3500 paddlers are scheduled to race from 66 clubs throughout Aotearoa along with 14 corporate teams for the 32nd annual nationals, and some 10,000 spectators are expected to be lakeside for the regatta.
