"The vehicle emissions software used by Connecticut stations is complex and different from that used in Massachusetts," said Darrin Greene, CEO, Applus Technologies, Inc., USA noting the different timetable from Connecticut's northeast neighbor, Massachusetts where testing has begun. "We recognize the inconvenience this service interruption has caused for motorists, new and used car dealers, and the network of privately-owned automotive service facilities who perform the inspections and the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). If we can confidently restore service sooner, we will."

SHREWSBURY, Mass., April 10, 2021 /PRNewswire/ -- Applus Technologies, Inc., today announced a significant progress update in the process of restoring the MA Vehicle Check safety inspection and emissions testing program to full service.
Applus has completed Phase 1: Remediation and is now in Phase 2: Restoration and System Testing of a very deliberate and methodical three-phase process required to bring the MA Vehicle Check program back online after a malware attack which forced Applus to temporarily shut the testing program down. Throughout these phases, Applus has worked closely with, and under the direction of, the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) to ensure that every aspect is fully reviewed and evaluated for a safe and secure return to program testing.

Applus Technologies, Inc., a vendor of multiple state Departments of Motor Vehicles that assists states with vehicle inspections, recently announced that its systems have been affected by malware, disrupting motor vehicle inspections in Connecticut, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Massachusetts, New York, Texas, and Utah. As a result of the outage, vehicle inspections have not been able to be completed since March 30, 2021.
This is obviously very inconvenient for those individuals whose inspection stickers have or will expire shortly, as they are at risk of being issued a citation for an expired inspection sticker, on top of having to take time off to take their car to get inspected.
